These days car insurance can be something that really does need a lot of research, because trying to get a good deal can often be like trying to find something that’s truly free. So, when it comes to actually choosing a car to buy, how can you ensure that your insurance won’t cost you an arm an a leg?

One of the biggest debates is whether it’s cheaper to insure a new car or to insure a vintage car. Some say that vintage cars are cheaper to insure, because they can be cheap to pick up and being older, they should cost less to insure, right? Well it really does depend on the car, generally vintage cars are sought after, which can make them pricey to buy and you then have to find a specialist insurer to actually insure it for you. Vintage cars can also be expensive to insure because they don’t have many of the mod cons, such as alarms. This can make them less appealing to insurers, and thus put your premium up.

Modern cars on the other hand can be quite expensive to buy, especially if you are buying a new one. But insurance premiums for these cars can be quite low. The reasons for this are quite simple; modern cars have the latest technology, meaning that there is less that is likely to go wrong mechanically. Add to that that most modern cars have alarms, auto locking and immoblizers, making it much harder for them to be stolen.

When it comes to buying a car, there are many things to consider if you are looking for a low insurance premium. The main thing to rememeber is that it really does depend on the car. A high specification, gas guzzling car with a large engine that was built in 2011 may well cost more to insure than a classic VW Beetle for example, but smaller, more modest modern cars are more likely to cost less.

Endsleigh is one insurer that offers competitive rates on insurance for both modern and vintage cars. To find out more about their premiums, click here.

The fifth generation of Nissan Z-car project gave birth to the Nissan 350Z in 2002. Originally a coupe, it took only a year for the new Nissan to evolve into the hugely successful two-seater roadster we see today. First unveiled at the Detroit Motor Show, the 350Z is named after its VQ35DE engine.

The Nissan has a front-mid 3.5 litre engine with rear-wheel drive, capable of reaching 155mph and hitting 60mph in less than six seconds. However, the Nissan enhances your drive experience with its loud roars, striking fear into lesser cars that dare pass by. Although the ride comfort leaves something to be desired, it is a sacrifice worth making in order to tame this predator of the road. The handling is entertaining to say the least, and probably not for the faint hearted. The real downside to the Nissan 350Z are its issues with practicality, make no mistake this is not a family car. Despite the nifty storage solutions in the cabin, the boot is sliced in two by a rear strut brace. Coupled with the fact it only seats two, this car is not a fan of everyday life.

With its iconic style and raw edge, the 350Z refuses to sink into the crowd. Its popularity is owed in large to its unique body designs, which scream of masculinity and road dominance. If this car was a man, you’d either envy him or have a crush on him. It won’t let you down either; this quality job is built to last and repairs are usually minimal. Unfortunately the 350Z isn’t the most economic car, and it consumes fuel at a daily rate. Add to that the frequent cost of new rear tyres and high-end insurance, and this quickly becomes a high maintenance car. But is it worth it? An enormous fan base replies ‘yes!’

It’s a great first car for your daughter as despite those diminutive proportions, the Micra rides extremely well! It in fact soaks up those bumps in a way a much larger vehicle would. This is great news for those that live in the city but occasionally need a vehicle that will perform on longer journeys.

The Nissan Micra also comes in a 1.5 litre diesel option, which is the more preferred model yet it does come available in numerous other petrol options in order to cater to a wider market.

It’s a nifty little model and will reach a genuinely impressive 60mpg. Again this makes it the perfect city car, whether you intend to zip around running errands or simply drive to and from work on a daily basis.

Some may say the Micra cares more about being good than looking good but the new model offers a revamped version of the old and looks relatively contemporary in style!

The materials used are impressively high-end, meaning you won’t be taking this vehicle to the car doctor on a regular basis. Grip levels and minimal body roll are also impressive and the steering is nicely weighed. This makes the handling of this vehicle a walk in the park!

When it comes to practicality this model has it all and the rear seats slide forward to create a spacious boot and that’s not all, there are hidden compartments all over the place!

Running costs are low, which is another great reason to invest in the all-new Nissan Micra if you simply want something that just works and offers reliability!
